Las Vegas is a world apart. The latest trend seems to be "Nothing
Exceeds Like Excess" as this dessert city is in the middle of a massive
building boom. The new casino/hotels are billion dollar resorts onto themselves.
Over twenty new ones have opened in the last ten years.
The casino that started the new bigger and better trend was Steve
Win's The Mirage. This is the one with the volcano that erupts every
evening behind these massive waterfalls. The Mirage is only one of
three 3000 room hotel/casinos owned by the same organization.
Next to the Mirage is Treasure Island with a pirate theme. The front
of the casino has the famous two pirate ships which shoot at each
other until one of them sinks every evening. During the day visitors can
view the ships and a complex pirate village behind them.
But Steve Win has just opened his third huge casino, the $1.8 billion
Bellagio. It has over $300 million in famous modern art, plus a
Cirque du Soleil water show. This is claimed to be the most expensive
show among the many top drawer casinos that line Las Vegas Blvd.
