West Virginia

The capitol of West Virginia is Charleston. It's golden dome capital
building sits along the river in an old neighborhood south of
downtown. The grounds contain acres of state office buildings from
the turn of the century. The quality of the structure seems out
of place for this much derrived state.

West Virginia is not known for its urban design and architecture. This
can be seen from the front steps of the capitol which overlooks the
other bank of the river. The other bank contains common houses and the
Univerity of Charleston's new campus buildings. Yet, they don't offer
much to look at.
Most of West Virginia is hills and crooked little streams. But the
heavy industry and chemical factory jobs have helped West Virginia to
pave most of its country roads. You'll find a new standard of housing
that has replaced the hillbilly shacks of just the recent past. West
Virginia is a shrinking state in population with a death rate faster
than its growth.
